The Anti Terrorism Unit has arrested a suspected member of banned militant outfit Hizb ut-Tahrir.
Tipped-off, the arrest was made at Shuvadda area in the capital’s Keraniganj Upazila on Thursday (May 9), said Superintendent of police Md Mahiduzzaman, media spokesperson of police’s Anti Terrorism Unit.
The arrestee, Riaz Uddin Sipai, is said to be an IT specialist and the organization.
Sipai was a coordinator of Hizb ut-Tahrir in-and-around several areas of Dhaka including: Jagannath University, South Keraniganj, Shampur, Dhoniya and Gandaria.
He also maintained the banned outfit’s online presence and brought new recruits, said Mahiduzzaman.
A case was expected to be lodged under the Anti Terrorism Act with South Keraniganj police, he added.
