Six to die for murder of govt officer

Representational imageA court in Dhaka sentenced six people to death and life imprisonment to another in a case lodged over murder of Dhaka divisional commissioner office employee Aminul Haque Khadem alias Anis Khadem in 2009.
Dhaka 4th speedy trial tribunal judge Abdur Rahman Sarder pronounced the verdict on Thursday (Apr 25).
The convicts sentenced to death are- Shahidur Rahman Khadem, Sohel, Mahbub Alam Liton (fugitive), Sheikh Shamim Ahammed (fugitive), Md Jewel (fugitive) and Kamal Hossain Biplob (fugitive).
The other convict, Abdullah Mohammad Nazim Uddin Babu, sentenced to life imprisonment.
The court also acquitted another accused Azgar Hossain Rana as the charges against him were not proved.
According to the case documents, Aminul Haque Khadem was gunned down in a pre-planned manner in Malibagh area on May 3, 2009, over a dispute regarding the control of Ahmedullah Estate.
A case was filed with Motijheel Police Station the next day. RAB filed charge sheet in the case on Nov 30, 2009, against eight in the case and the accused later gave confessional statements before the court.
