Verdict in RP Saha 1971 killing any day

International Crimes Tribunal (Bangladesh)The International Crimes Tribunal (ICT) has concluded the trial in the 1971 abduction and killing of philanthropist Ranada Prasad Saha and his son Bhabani Prasad Saha.
On Wednesday (Apr 24), the three-member tribunal led by Justice Md Shahinur Islam kept its verdict pending after hearing closing statements by the prosecution and defence.
The trial began in June last year after the war crimes tribunal indicted Tangail’s Mahbubur Rahman.
Prosecutor Rana Dasgupta moved for the state, while Gazi MH Tamim represented the defendant.
According to the investigators, on May 7, 1971, Mahbubur led a group of men into the Narayanganj residence of Ranada Prasad Saha, the founder of Kumudini Welfare Trust.
They kidnapped and killed him and his son and their bodies were never found.
The ICT sent Mahbubur Rahman to prison on Jun 9 last year after indicting him for crimes against humanity, arson, murder, kidnapping and mass killing.
He has also been accused of kidnapping and killing 33 Hindus at Sahapara and killing 22 people at Madhupur. He is currently serving time at Kashimpur prison in Gazipur.
