Authorities at the Dhaka airport have detained an Upazila chairman of ruling Awami League for entering with an undeclared firearm.
On Thursday (Apr 18), security personnel detained Molla Mujibor Rahman Shamim, upazila chairman of the southern district of Bagerhat’s Chitalmari Upazila, after he entered the airport’s domestic terminal with a pistol, said Nur Siddiqui, a director of Aviation Security at the Shahjalal International Airport.
“Security personnel quizzed him why he entered the airport with a gun, Shamin couldn’t come up with any satisfactory response,” said Siddiqui before adding, legal action would be taken against him.
Incidents of entering airport with undeclared firearm are on the rise with at least two detentions were reported in March at Dhaka airport.
