On Monday (Mar 18), the High Court granted bail for a year to suspect Ruhul Amin and on Thursday (Mar 21), an appeal was filed against the order.A High Court bench has withdrawn its earlier order which granted bail to prime suspect in the rape of a woman at Noakhali’s Subarnachar on the night of Dec 30 last year after the 11th National Election.

The bench of Justice Mamnun Rahman and Justice SM Kuddus Zaman withdrew the order of bail for Ruhul Amin on Saturday (Mar 23).

On Mar 18, the High Court granted bail for a year to suspect Ruhul Amin and on Mar 21 the state filed an appeal against the order.

The state also accuses the defence of providing misleading information to the court while moving for bail, said Deputy Attorney General Biswajit Roy.

“The bail petition was originally filed with the bench of justices M Enayetur Rahim and Md Mostafizur Rahman, but the defence then moved the bench of justices Mamnoon Rahman and SM Kuddus Zaman, which granted the suspect bail. It was clear effort to mislead the state,” he told the media on Thursday after challenging the High Court’s decision.

Ruhul Amin was the publicity affairs secretary of Subarnachar Awami League, but the party expelled him after his alleged involvement in the rape case. He was also a former member of Char Jubilee Union Parishad.

The victim’s husband, however, previously claimed to National Human Rights Commission (NHRC) that the First Information Report (FIR) of the criminal case filed by him was not written by him as he is illiterate and his complaint was altered by those who wrote it for him.
