The incident was reported around 7:30am on Tuesday when a Supravat paribahan-operated bus ran over 24-year-old Abrar Ahmed Chowdhury in front of Jamuna Future Park.

Abrar, a BUP student died on the spot when he was run over by a bus on Tuesday (Mar 19)

Abrar, who was a student at University of Professionals (BUP), was crossing the road when the bus hit him, said his BUP student Al Amin.

“The driver of the bus has been arrested and the bus has been seized as well,” Gulshan police Duty Officer SI Zahid Hasan told Bangla Tribune.

Following the incident, agitated students and locals took to the streets blocking vehicle movement.

Abrar lived with his parents at Basundhara Residential Area. His father is Brig (Retd.) Arif Hossain. Abrar was the eldest among the two sons in the family.

“After the first inquest report is prepared at the CMH, his body will be taken to BUP campus,” said Abrar’s classmate Abdul Quadir Khan told Bangla Tribune.

“A funeral prayer will be held at the varsity campus,” Khan said adding, “He will be buried after second funeral prayer at the Basundhara Residential area.”
