ast Friday the cricket team evaded death when an extremist gunned down 50 people at a mosque in Christchurch. With the forward momentum of Bangladesh, foreign connections are increasing with countless teams visiting far-away lands every day.
When the Bangladesh president and PM go abroad, the host country usually arranges the security under the supervision of their government.
Now, with the recent massacre in a mosque in Christchurch, New Zealand, the issue of security for the national cricket team has come to the fore.
Relevant people say that money has to be spent to ensure security for people other than the president or the PM. Last Friday the cricket team evaded death when an extremist gunned down 50 people at a mosque in Christchurch.
After that incident, the PM has said that the cricket team has to be sent after security is ensured. Foreign minister A K Abdul Momen, says, “If we want security then we have to pay; since this involves a huge cost, we usually do not take security.”
Security specialist and former Major General Abdur Rashid, says, “We are a democratic nation and since we are not involved in any conflict in the world, the threat level posed to us is low.”
However, an accident can happen any time; in New Zealand, if the players had come a little earlier to the mosque they would have become the victims of the killer, he said.
When government officials visit a country, the host nation should take care of security; it’s like a silent agreement because we expect that some sort of security will be provided, observed the specialist.
“But there’s nothing called impregnable security.”
