The Dhaka North City Corporation (DNCC) has suspended one of its officials over a staged cleaning campaign.
On Sunday, a cleaning campaign was opened in a bizarre fashion as the DNCC staffers were seen throwing papers on a clean street for newly-elected Mayor Atiqul Islam, who later kicked off the campaign.
Executive Engineer and Additional Chief Waste Management Officer SM Shafiqur Rahman has been suspended on charges of instructing to litter a clean street, the DNCC said in a statement on Monday (Mar 18).
The DNCC also instructed to discharge a supervisor, Salaudin, who was appointed by the contractor for its Waste Management.
Besides, a three-strong committee headed by DNCC’s Chief Estate Officer Aminul Islam has been formed over the incident.
The panel has been told to file a report within seven working days.
