A woman has died and seven other sustained injuries when a road side tree fell on them near Shishu Academy area in the capital’s Shahbag.

The incident was reported around 9.30pm on Friday (Feb 22), said police.

The deceased has been identified as 25-year-old Mitu Ghosh.

The injured including Khorshed Alam, 55, his wife Selina Begum, 35, daughter Seherin Alam, 18, Sanjir Alam, 10, Ranjan Ghosh, 30, Shopna, 32, and a pedestrian Mohsin, 28, were admitted to Dhaka Medical College Hospital (DMCH) and among them critically injured Shopna was taken to Square Hospitals, said DMCH police camp Inspector Baccu Mia.

“A tree suddenly fell on a rickshaw leaving Mitu dead on the spot and injured the others,” Shahbagh police Sub-Inspector Samiul Haque told Bangla Tribune.

“The body has been kept at DMCH for autopsy,” he added.
