ACC to charge 24 over selling state-owned assets

COURTESYThe Anti Corruption Commission (ACC) has approved a charge sheet against 24 officials of the Bangladesh Telecommunication Company’s Registrar and Settlement office for illegally selling state-owned assets worth Tk 2.94 billion to Popular Life Insurance Company.

The charge sheet was cleared on Wednesday (Feb 20).

The graft watchdog sued the 24 people, among whom eight are senior officials, on grounds of fraud and misuse of power.

According to the case dossiers, the illegal selling of 6.67 acres of state-owned property to the insurance company saw the exchange of Tk 910 million in bribe.

ACC started a case over the matter on Nov 2, 2011.

Former ACC Deputy Director Abdul Aziz Bhuiyan, Deputy Director SMM Akhter Hamid Bhuiyan and Syed Ahmed probed the case.
