Woman remanded for Notre Dame student murder

Yougen Hanasie Gonsalves, 22, was a student of Dhaka’s Notre Dame College.Police have been given three days in custody to quiz a woman in a case in connection to death of a Notre Dame College student.
Dhaka Metropolitan Magistrate Mohammad Jasim handed the order on Monday (Feb 18) after police produced the women in the court seeking seven days in remand.
On Saturday (Feb 16), Rapid Action Battalion arrested Sabita Begum, 26, who later confessed to killing Notre Dame student Yougen Hanasie Gonsalves.
On Feb 13, police recovered the body of Yougen inside a flat at Dhaka’s Sobujbag area.
Twenty-two-year-old Yougen was a witness in a case, which Sabita started in 2017.
Since then, Yougen used to blackmail her for money.
Anger over the blackmailed, Sabita, a Stamford University law student, killed Yougen to get rid of him.
Following the murder, Yougen’s sister opened a case with Sabujbag police.
