Police are also investigating whether there are other motives behind the murder, said Deputy Commissioner (Ramna Division) of Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) Maruf Hossain Sardar.
So far, two people have been arrested in connection with the murder.
They are housemaid Swapna alias Rita Akter and Runi, who helped Swapna get the work at Parvin’s house.
On Feb 10, police recovered the body of Parvin from her apartment at Sukanya Tower in the city’s Elephant Road.
After the murder, the family reported that their two housemaids went missing along with gold, valuables and money.
On the next day, a case was filed against the two domestic helpers with New Market police in connection with the murder.
On Friday (Feb 15), DMP Deputy Commissioner Sardar told a media briefing that the housemaids ran away with Pervin's mobile handset.
“Police arrested Runu, who brought the housemaids, from the city’s Mirpur and Swpna from her village home in Netrokona’s Madan area,” said the police official.
Another suspect Reshma is still on the run. Police also recovered a gold chain and Tk 7,000 from Swapna's possession.
Sardar said, “The accused, however, admitted involvement to the killing during initial interrogation.”
Investigative is still at the initial phase and several police teams are working to arrested another housemaid Reshma,” he added.
