The Qatari government made a downward revision of the prices of over 500 essential items just before Ramadan.
Last week, the commerce ministry hanged the revised price list of essentials including edible oil, rice, pulse, wheat, spices, fish and meat in front all shops while city corporation officials are strictly monitoring the market situation.
Naima Akter, a Bangladeshi housewife living in Barwa Housing area, expressed her satisfaction as the price level goes down during Ramadan in Qatar.
“Bangladeshis during Ramadan feel a lot of anxiety about the price hike but here we get hefty discount.”
Imran Hasan, a Bangladeshi cashier in Safari shopping mall, said, “We give big discount on almost all items during Ramadan.”
Citing example, he said, “We sell basmati rice 36 riyal per kg but, in Ramadan it comes down to 26 riyal.”
Gold ornaments, gold coin, Nissan Petrol or Mercedes or BMW are on special offers in some shopping malls in Qatar to attract buyers.
