Authorities in Dhaka have destroyed 4.4 tonne adulterated mangos on Saturday.
The huge amount of summer-delicacy was destroyed as unscrupulous traders used chemicals like ethephon and carbide to fasten the ripping process.
An executive magistrate-led mobile court seized the mangos from warehouses in capital’s Mirpur before mowing down them with a bulldozer.
“These mangoes contaminated with ethephon and carbide pose a severe risk to human health,” Magistrate Sarwar Alam told Bangla Tribune.
During the Rapid Action Battalion drive, six traders were jailed for stockpiling and marketing adulterated fruits.
Stocks of ethephon and carbide have been also confiscated during the raid.
