The High Court has granted six months bail to barrister Mainul Hosein in 15 defamation cases lodged against him.

There is now no bar on releasing Mainul Hosein on bail, said his counsels after a High Court bench of justices Md Rezaul Haque and Zafar Ahmed granted his bail plea on Sunday (Jan 13).  

“The High Court has granted bail to Mainul Hosein in 15 defamation cases lodged in various courts. However, he won’t require bails in three other cases over similar allegations as they are in trial phases. Therefore there is no bar on releasing him,” said Khandaker Mahmud Hossain who moved the bail plea.

During a TV talk show on Oct 16, 2018, Mainul made derogatory comments about a female journalist, Masuda Bhatti, following which, a number of cases on charges of defamation and Digital Security Act were lodged against him in different courts across the country.
