RMG workers vandalise vehicles, clash with police on Saturday (Jan 12).

Ready-made garment (RMG) workers have vandalised vehicles and blocked roads in Ashulia as their protests demanding increased pay entered 6th day on Saturday (Jan 12).

Police intervened to disperse the agitating workers and clash erupted which left at least 10 injured.

The clash, which ensued around 11am Saturday (Jan 12) from Jamgara area on the Baipail-Abdullahpur Highway, lasted around 45 minutes before injuring 10 people including passengers of the vandalised vehicles.

At the time of filing the report, the situation was under control.

According to witnesses, the protesting RMG workers from around 15 factories took to the streets at the Jamgara area and started to throw brick chips at vehicles leaving at least 5 injured. When police tried to disperse the crowd, the protesters hurled brick flakes at them as well prompting the law enforcers to use tear shells and water cannon.

Ashulia Industrial Police SP Sana Saminur Rahman said that additional police personnel have been deployed in the area to keep order.
