The Shishu Park in Dhaka is not being transferred; instead, the government has undertaken a project to modernize the park at a cost of over Tk 2.65 billion. For ramping up the infrastructure, Tk 7.8 million will be spent.
Previously, a decision to move the Shishu Park was taken, which was later cancelled by the liberation war minister, A K M Mozammel Huq.
The work to modernize the park has started with new rides, underground parking and food courts.
In addition, fountains, mosques, underpass and other structures will be constructed. The project will be implemented by the ministry of works.
Shishu Park has always been popular though the guardians who take their children are often worried because the rides are 39 years old; with the new initiative, modern attractions will be added with top class safety features.
The park’s foundation was laid in 1978 and opened in July 1979. At that time, the rides were provided by Misho Corporation in Japan.
Dhaka South City Corporation, DSCC’s engineer Anisur Rahman, told Bangla Tribune, “The park is being renovated with the old rides changed.”
The tender process is underway and soon we will get the new rides, he assured.
Currently, the park is closed for improvement work.
