Man lands in jail over Naya Paltan police vehicle torching

On Thursday (Jan 10), police arrested 28-year-old Wasim from the capital’s Pallabi.A court in Dhaka has sent a man to jail in a case filed over torching of police vehicles during the Nov 14 clash in front of BNP’s Naya Paltan headquarters.
Dhaka Metropolitan Magistrate court Judge Jasim Uddin handed the order on Friday (Jan 11) after recording his confessional statement of Wasim.
Earlier, the case investigation officer Pallabi police Sub-Inspector Munshi Shahidul Islam produced Wasim before the court, and told the court that the accused will confess to it under Section 164 of Criminal Procedure Act.
On Thursday (Jan 10), police arrested 28-year-old Wasim from the capital’s Pallabi.
As many as 23 policemen including 5 police officers and 2 Ansar members were injured during the Naya Paltan clash. Activists of BNP also burnt two police vehicles including a police van during the clash.
Later, three cases were filed with Paltan police over the incident.
