A court in Dhaka has sentenced a man for seven years after finding him guilty of circulating doctored images of Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina.
On Wednesday, Bangladesh Cyber Tribunal convicted Tangail resident Monir Hossain.
He has been slapped with a fine of Tk 10,000, failing to pay which will cause another month behind the bars, tribunal official Shameem Usman told Bangla Tribune.
The court acquitted two others — Alamgir Hossain and Subrata Sheel — as the charges against were not proven beyond doubt.
In November 2013, police arrested Alamgir from village in Manikganj on charges of spreading photoshopped images of Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina, late president Zillur Rahman and former Indian prime minister Manmohan Singh to mobile phones users.
Following his arrest, Alamgir told police he got the images from ‘Monir Telecom’ Tangail’s Nagarpur, which was run by the convict. Monir was then arrested in a police raid.
Police started a case under the ICT Act’s Section 57, which criminalizes distribution of content damaging to individuals over electronic media.   
Monir, Alamgir, Subrata and one Probhash Chandra Sarkar were named in the case.
In March 2014, police pressed charges in court against the four accused.  

The cyber court indicted Monir, Alamgir and Subrata on in February the next year.
