Two men arrested for the murder of two children in Demra allegedly lured them into the house and tried to rape them before killing them, said police.

According to them, Golam Mostafa and Azizul Islam lured four-year-old Nusrat Jahan and five-year-old Faria Akhter Dola with lipsticks and asphyxiated them after a failed rape attempt, Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) Deputy Commissioner Md Farid Uddin told the media on Wednesday (Jan 9). ]

On Tuesday (Jan 8), police arrested 30-year-old Mostafa and 28-year-old Azizul after raiding Demra area. According to the information they provided, police recovered a towel, two pairs if the girls’ sandals and a lipstick.

The dead bodies of Faria and Dola were found under a bed in Mostafa's home on Monday (Jan 7) night, hours after they went missing from near their home at Konapara in Demra.

Police said that his wife had found the girls’ sandals in the house after she got home from work. Their fight alerted the locals who then called the police.

The suspects tried to rape the girls but once they started screaming, Azizul strangled Dola with his own hand while Mostafa killed Nusrat with the towel, said DC Farid Uddin.

Responding to queries about whether it could have been premeditated, he said, “Mostafa called Azizul before the incident which shows premeditation. They are cousins.”

The DC assured that the perpetrators will be sent to court and they will be brought to justice.

The murdered children were nursery school-goers who lived next to each other at Konapara and were roaming about their area before being abducted.
