Police in Sri Lanka have arrested two Bangladeshi citizens in possession of 230 kg of heroin and 5 kg cocaine, says the Dhaka envoy in Colombo.
“We have been informed by the high-ups in the Sri Lankan government over the haul,” High Commissioner Riaz Hamidullah told Bangla Tribune on Monday (Dec 31).
The suspects have been identified as 44-year-old Md Jamal Uddin from Bogura and 29-year-old Dewan Rafiul Islam from Joypurhat.
The arrests were made from the Mount Lavinia Hotel during a raid by Police Narcotic Prevention Bureau in Colombo’s Dehiwala area, reported local media.
Quoting police spokesperson Ruwan Gunesekera, online media outlet Hiru News reported that the Bangladeshis stayed in a rented house in Colombo have peddled drugs throughout the island for some time.
