Samsuzzaman Sentu is a ruthless loan-shark and after obtaining ownership deeds of flats, homes or land, he gives money to people on high interest. He has also provided loans by taking signatures on blank paper. Later, he uses these to swindle people. Several people have become penniless after falling victim of his usury.
By taking blank cheques from several people, Sentu resorted to blackmail and then occupied a three-storied building.
In the same manner, other people had to give up their livelihoods after falling into the loan traps of Sentu.
One person told Bangla Tribune, “We cannot get out of his web of exploitation because he also has a group of thugs, often using his licenced gun to intimidate people.”
A transport trader, Sheikh Abdur Rahim, who became a victim of Sentu, says that in 2000, he took Tk 4.5 million from him and till 2005, gave back Tk 14.5 million.
When taking the money, Rahim gave 100 blank cheques to Sentu.
Meanwhile, in 2015, in the name of cheque dishonour, Sentu is pressuring Rahim for more money.
Rahim says, “Sentu has connections with influential people and no one has the power to meddle with him.”
