A court in Dhaka has set Jan 9 to hear the charges against jailed BNP Chairperson Khaleda Zia in two cases filed over undermining the national flag and observing “fake birthday” on August 15.
Dhaka Metropolitan Additional Magistrate Asaduzzaman Noor fixed the date on Thursday (Dec 13) after Khaleda’s layer sought time extension.
On Aug 30, 2016, Gazi Zahirul Islam, former joint general secretary of Dhaka Union of Journalists, filed a case against her for celebrating “fake birthday” on Aug 15.
On Nov 3 of the same year, AB Siddique, president of Bangladesh Jananetri Parishad, a pro-Awami League organisation, sued Khaleda for “undermining” the country's map and national flag.
