HC issues contempt rule against six including CEC

BANGLATRIBUNE/Sazzad HossainThe High Court has issued a contempt of court rule the election commissioners including the chief election commissioner (CEC) and the commission secretary for defying the court’s order to reinstate Oikyaboddho Nagorik Andolon’s registration as a political party.
The bench of Justice Mamnoon Rahman and Justice Ashish Ranjan Das issued the rule on Monday (Dec 10) after hearing a petition on the matter.
The defendants have been ordered to file their response to the rule within four weeks.
Advocate Monjil Morshed moved for the petition.
Earlier on Dec 6 five election commissioners and secretary were served with a legal notice for not reinstating Oikyaboddho Nagorik Andolon’s registration and rejecting their candidate’s nominations.
The respondents of the rule are CEC KM Nurul Huda, election commissioners Mahbub Talukder, Rafiqul Islam, Kabita Khanam and Shahadat Chowdhury and Secretary Helaluddin Ahmed.
