A Dhaka court has granted bail to Viqarunnisa Noon School and College teacher Hasna Hena after spending four days in jail on charges of instigating the suicide of ninth-grader Aritree Adhikari.
The bail petition was heard and accepted by Dhaka Metropolitan Magistrate Baki Billah on Sunday.
Court police’s General Register Officer Jalal Uddin told Bangla Tribune that she was released on a Tk 5,000 bond and that the bail is valid until the investigation report is filed.
Three teachers — acting principal Nazneen Ferdous, morning shift in-charge Zinat Akhtar, and class teacher Hasna Hena — were sued by the family of the 15-year-old girl, who killed herself on Dec 3 after the teachers allegedly humiliated her and her parents over cheating in an exam.
The teenager’s father Dilip Adhikary started the case with Paltan Police Station the next day (Dec 4).
The court on Thursday (Dec 6) denied bail to Hena and sent her to jail following her arrest the previous day.
The renowned Viqarunnisa school fell into unrest after Aritree killed herself at her home in Dhaka’s Shantinagar.
