Police earned more than Tk 40b from UN peace missions

In that aim, members of the police force started joining UN mission since 1988. That year, 15 members took part in the Iran-Iraq peace mission followed by the Namibia mission in 1989.

Bangladesh army and air force joined the peace mission in 1993. Currently, six Bangladeshi missions are in UN peacekeeping with 806 members. In the last 29 years, 18,846 members of police completed their missions and so far earned, over Tk 41 billion.

During missions, twenty members were martyred while 10 were wounded. While serving for UN overseas, police members get their regular salary plus the UN payment.

The UN also pays Bangladesh police for the usage of their equipment with the Bangladesh government getting ten percent of the total income.

IGP Javed Patwary said, “Bangladesh is a leading nation that sends forces to UN and I request the UN authority to increase the number.”

According to ISPR, so far, 156,409 peacekeeping members from Bangladesh went to 54 missions in 40 countries.

Currently, 7075 Bangladeshis are engaged in peacekeeping in 11 countries of which 157 are women.
