Viqarunnisa principal, two teachers sued over student’s suicide

The body of ninth-grader Aritree Adhikari was found hanging from the ceiling fan of her room locked from inside on Monday (Dec 3).As many as three people including the principal of the capital’s Viqarunnisa Noon School and College have been sued over the suicide of one of its students.

On Monday (Dec 3), the body of ninth-grader Aritree Adhikari, 15, was found hanging from the ceiling fan of her room locked from inside.

The family claimed she committed suicide after the school’s teachers including its principal insulted her and the parents because she had cheated in an exam.

On Tuesday (Dec 4), Aritree’s father Dilip Adhikari filed the case with Paltan police on accusing three teachers of provoking her daughter to commit suicide.

“Principal Nazneen Ferdous, main campus’ shift in-charge Zinnat Ara, and class teacher Hasne Hena were made accused in the case,” Paltan police SI Sujan Talukder told Bangla Tribune.

The ‘suicide’ sparked fury among other students and parents as the demonstrated outside the school’s main campus demanding the removal of the principal and other teachers.
