Ensure security for Mainul in court: HCThe High Court has instructed police to ensure proper security while transporting Mainul Hosein to court from the prison for hearings.

The order by the bench Justice Syed Refaat Ahmed and Justice Md. Iqbal Kabir to the Rangpur police chief and jailer came on Monday (Nov 19).

It also ordered to initiate measures to form a medical board by the Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujib Medical University (BSMMU) Hospital for his treatment

On Nov 6, Mainul’s wife filed to separate pleas over security and medical treatment, which were heard on Monday.

On Oct 22, Judge Arifa Yasmin Mukta of Additional Chief Judicial Magistrate Court in Rangpur issued a warrant for Mainul’s arrest after a local human rights activist, Mili Maya, filed a defamation case with it.
According to the case statement, Mainul who was connected to a talk show programme, 'Ekattorer Journal', through a videoconference aired on a private TV channel, Ekattor TV, hosted by Mithila Farzana, made an 'offensive comments' against her on October 16.
He tarnished the image of Masuda Bhatti, it said.
Mainul is one of the sponsors of the Gano Forum chief Dr Kamal Hossain-led new alliance, Jatiya Oikya Front, with the BNP, JSD and Mahmudur Rahman Manna's Nagorik Oikya.
Mainul was in charge of law, justice and parliamentary affairs, among others, during his tenure in the caretaker government, when Awami League chief, now the prime minister, Sheikh Hasina and BNP chief Khaleda Zia was arrested on graft charges.
A son of The Daily Ittefaq editor late Tofazzal Hossain Manik Mia, Mainul has triggered a firestorm of anger and criticism on Oct 16, when he called journalist Bhatti a ‘debauchee’ in Ekattor Journal, a live talk show on Ekattor TV.
Mainul’s brother Anwar Hossain Monju, a minister in the Hasina administration, owns Ittefaq following a 2010 deal among the brothers, who have been involved in a long drawn out rivalry.
The brothers’ battle for the ownership of the prestigious daily had made headlines for years.
