The High Court has ordered to shift the incarcerated BNP chief Khaleda Zia to Bangabandhu Medical College Hospital and ensure proper treatment for her if she wants to be hospitalised.

The bench of Justice Sheikh Hassan Arif and Justice Razik-Al-Jalil passed the order Monday (19 Nov) after hearing a plea challenging the legality of sending her from hospital to prison.

AJ Mohammad Ali moved to the court on Khaleda’s behalf while Additional Attorney General Murad Reza was the State’s counsel.
On Nov 11, Khaleda’s counsel submitted the petition seeking the HC order on the government to send her to a specialised hospital for treatment.
The petition stated that the government has taken her back to jail without completing her treatment at BSMMU, which is a violation of her fundamental rights.
Khaleda, who was admitted to BSMMU as per an earlier HC directive, was taken back to jail on Nov 8.

She has been serving a 10-year jail term since Feb 8 after a Dhaka Court found her guilty in the Zia Orphanage Trust graft case.
