The High Court has cleared the trial against senior BNP leader Mirza Abbas on charges of acquiring wealth beyond known sources of income.
On Sunday (Nov 11), the bench of Justice Nazrul Islam Talukder and Justice KM Hafizul Alam rejected a plea by the BNP National Standing Committee member seeking to quash the charges.
In August 2007, the Anti Corruption Commission (ACC) filed the case accusing Abbas of corruption involving over Tk 59.7 billion.
Besides, the ACC said it also found assets worth around Tk 3.34 million not mentioned in the statement submitted to the graft watchdog.
