Subversion cases of 2014 election in court. FILE PHOTOPrior to and after the tenth national parliamentary elections, more than 1500 subversion cases were lodged across the country with 200 cases in Dhaka. The latest information of these cases could not be obtained.
According to relevant officials, the cases are listed as per criminal code, but which ones are political and which ones are not are never mentioned.
Police headquarter sources say that after the 5 January, 2014 election, plenty of public property was harmed due to arson, vandalism and other violence. During that time, 200 political cases were lodged.
Relevant quarters claim that most arson and subversion cases were investigated fully and charge sheets submitted.
Head of the 20 party alliance, Khaleda Zia was accused in 13 arson/subversion cases.
Prior to and post tenth national parliamentary elections held on 5 January, 2014, 225 cases of subversion took place with a death toll of 116 and 2363 injured.
Deputy-commissioner of DMP, communication section, Masudur Rahman, said: “the cases do not specify if it is political or not.”
Only the criminal codes are mentioned, he added.
“The cases lodged during the last election are now in trial.”
Communication official of the police headquarters, A K M Kamrul Hassan, says: “cases are never political and therefore, there is no statistics as to how many cases lodged had political links.”
