Police raiding Narsingdi 'militant hideout'

Members of Special Weapons and Tactics (SWAT) and Counter Terrorism and Transnational (CTTC) unit of Police have begun their operation at two ‘militant dens’ in Narshingdi.

Gunshots have been heard since 11am Tuesday morning when the CTTC started their raid.

Members of CTTC cordoned off two buildings, suspected to be militant hideouts, located at the district’s Madhabdi and Shekherchar since Monday night.

CTTC Additional Deputy Commissioner Abdul Mannan said on Monday that they were preparing for launching operation.

SWAT team were later called in for the operation, CTTC officials said.

CTTC chief Monirul Islam told media on Tuesday morning that they will first call on the militants to surrender before they move in.

The militant hideout at Madhabdi is a five-storied building where at least two men and a woman are hiding, according to information CTTC officials said they received.

The other den used by militants is a seven-storied building where at least two female militants is currently staying, the officials added.
