Rain to continue till Tuesday

The ongoing rain is expected to continue till Tuesday, says Bangladesh Meteorological Department (BMD).
“Under the influence of the depression, steep pressure gradient persists over north bay as deep convection is taking place over north bay and coastal areas of Bangladesh, and this situation may continue for two more days,” BMD meteorologist Hafizur Rahman told Bangla Tribune.
Moderately heavy to very heavy rainfalls are likely to occur at places over southern part of the country.
Rahman said, “Maritime ports of Chattogram, Cox’s Bazar, Mongla and Payra have been advised to be hoisted local cautionary signal number three as the land depression is apparently appeared to weaken.”
Meanwhile, BMD’s bulletin for next 24 hours said, “Light to moderate rain and thunder showers accompanied by temporary gusty or squally wind is likely to occur at most places over Khulna, Barishal, Chattogram and Sylhet divisions and at a few places over Rajshahi, Dhaka and Mymensingh divisions commencing from 6pm Saturday (Oct 13).”
“The land depression over Odisha-Gangetic West Bengal and adjoining area has already moved northeastwards and now lies over Gangetic West Bengal and adjoining southwestern part of Bangladesh.”
The depression is likely to move northeastwards further inland and weaken gradually, the release said.
Squally weather is likely to affect the maritime ports, North Bay and adjoining coastal areas Of Bangladesh.
All fishing boats and trawlers over North Bay and deep sea have been advised to remain close to the coast and proceed with caution till further notice. They are also advised not to venture into the deep sea.
Meanwhile, River ports in 13 regions across the country have also been asked to hoist cautionary signal number two as rain accompanied with gusty or squally wind is likely to occur in many places till 6 pm today, another met release said.
Moreover, rain or thundershowers accompanied by temporary South or South-Easterly gusty or squally wind speed 45-60 kph is likely to occur elsewhere over the country during the time wherein river ports have been advised to be hoisted cautionary signal number one, it continued.
