Road-safety protests: 25 students set free on bail

Courts in Dhaka have granted bail to 25 students arrested on charges of violence and attack on police during the student protest for safer roads.
The court decisions came Sunday, 12 days after they were arrested.
Dhaka Metropolitan Magistrate Saifuzzaman Ansari gave bail to 9 students on Tk 5,000 bond each in three separate cases with Dhanmondi police station.
The students are Shohad Khan, Masriqul Islam, Tamal Samad, mahmudur Rahman, Omar Siam, Mahabubur Rahman, Iqbal Hossain, Naimur Rahman and Minhajul Islam.
More six students are still behind bars in the case.
Earlier in the day, Dhaka Metropolitan Magistrate AKM Moinuddin gave bail to another 15 students while Judge Saifuzzaman Hiru passed bail order for another student.
They are Shakawat Hossain Nijhum, Shihab Shahriar, Azizul Karim Antor, Mashhad Murtaza Ahad, Mehedi Hasan, Fayez Ahmed, Noor Moahhmad, Azizul Haq, Md Hasan, Dewan Ahmed, Tariqul Islam, Reza Rifat Akhlaq, AHM Khaled Reza, Rashedul Islam, Mushfiqur Rahman and Iftekher Ahmed.
Registration officers of the cases confirmed the matter.
Twenty-two students of East West University, North South University, Southeast University and BRAC University were detained on Tuesday (Aug 7), when clashes broke out between students at Dhaka’s Bashundhara and Rampura.
They were formally arrested in two cases started by the Badda and Bhatara police stations the same day and produced in court when they were remanded for two days.
