Maolana Nurul Islam FarooqiPolice are yet to finish the investigation over the murder of Islami Front leader and TV show host Nurul Islam Farooqi, though four years have passed since he was killed.
His son Ahmed Reza Farooqi, who hosts an Islamic show on My TV, expressed anger over the alleged negligence in investigation by the law enforcers
“We wanted justice from this government for the killing of my father by militants; but even after four years, the investigation of the killing has not finished as yet,” he told Bangla Tribune.
“We do not know why the investigation is taking so long,” the son lamented.
Meanwhile, investigating officers said: “We have made progress with the discovery of new information.”
We will reveal the findings once all aspects are covered, not before, they assured.
Maolana Nurul Islam Farooqi was killed by unknown assailants on Aug 27, 2014.
A day after the killing, his son lodged a case of murder and robbery at the Sher-E-Bangla Nagar police station.
The case was later transferred to Detective Branch from where it went to CID with inspector Arshed Ali Mondol given the investigation responsibility.
Recently that was changed and now the investigating officer is CID’s Senior ASP Mahmud Talukdar.
However, when contacted, he refused to make any comment on the investigation.
Meanwhile, general registration official of Dhaka Metropolitan court, Abu Yusuf, informed that 8 July last was the day fixed for submission of the investigation report.
But since the investigating officer could not present the report, Judge Mazharul Huq fixed 16 August as the next date for submission.
Relevant investigating officials say that after the killing, sixteen people, including a spiritual leader of Ansarullah Bangla team, Shayakh Mozaffar, three others from the same outfit, six from JMB and three from Harkatul Jihad were arrested.
Of them, Mozaffar got release on bail while 12 others, including JMB members, are in prison.
