FILE PHOTOActress and model Quazi Nawshaba Ahmed landed in jail following a second round of remand on charges of spreading rumours to incite violence during protests for road safety.
On Monday, police produced her in the court of Additional Metropolitan Magistrate Asaduzzaman Nur.
Counterterrorism Inspector Rafiqul Islam, the investigating officer, pleaded to the court to keep her behind the bars until the probe ends while Nawshaba’s counsel moved a bail petition.
The court denied bail to the actress and sent her to prison.
Earlier in the day, she fell sick when the police arrived at the court premises with her around 3:30am.
Police took her to the Dhaka Medical College Hospital (DMCH) immediately without producing her in court.
DMCH Emergency Department’s Dr Naser said that Nawshaba has been suffering from diarrhoea.
Around 5pm, police left the hospital with her and produced her in court.
On Aug 4, students demonstrating for safer roads clashed with the staff of the Awami League chief’s Dhanmondi offices at the capital’s Jigatala.
Earlier the same day, Nawshaba went live on Facebook urging people to “save the students from attacks” claiming that two students were killed.
In her one-and-half-minute live broadcast, the actress also claimed a student’s eyes have been gouged out by the attackers.
After detaining her from the capital’s Uttara later in the day, RAB said her comments played a role in the street battle.
Police have charged Nawshaba with spreading rumours to incite violence in a case filed under the ICT Act.
