A Dhaka court sent renowned photographer Shahidul Alam to jail on Sunday in a case filed under the ICT act.

Metropolitan Magistrate Fahad Bin Amin Chowdhury passed the order after Alam was produced in court following a seven day remand, court’s General Recording Officer (GRO) Mahmudur Rahman told Bangla Tribune.

On Aug 6, court granted seven days for questioning Alam in custody after Detective Branch (DB) Inspector and Investigation Officer of the case Arman Ali sought orders for a 10-day remand.

Alam, the founder of Drik Gallery and Pathshala South Asian Media Institute, was picked up from his Dhanmondi home on Aug 5, said her wife Rehnuma Ahmed.

DB started a case against Alam on charges of spreading false information following his interview in an international media outlet during the students’ protest for safer roads.
