“The leaflets published and distributed by BRTA mentioned 13 penalties for drivers under different clauses of the new law. These leaflets caused fear among drivers which led them to call a nationwide strike on Wednesday,” he said on Friday (Nov 22).
A lawmaker from ruling Awami League and a former shipping minister, Shajahan made the remarks at a media briefing in Dhaka’s Segunbagicha area, according to media report.
Shajahan said, “There are also penalties for pedestrians and others under the new law. However, those were not mentioned in the BRTA leaflet.”
Transport sector leaders would sit for a discussion with Home Minister Asaduzzaman Khan Kamal on Nov 23 to press home their demands, he added.
