A senior government official confirmed that the probe found involvements of Managing Director Habib Uddin Ahmed, who has been removed after the scandal came into light, as well as former managing directors SM Nurul Aurangajeb, Md Kamruzzaman and Md Aminuzzaman.
Aurangajeb is now serving as the managing director of state-owned Maddhapara Granite Mining Company Ltd while Kamruzzaman is the top official of Rupantarita Prakritik Gas Company Ltd, the government corporation for selling compressed natural gas (CNG).
Aminuzzaman is now said be to working for a Chinese mining company, claimed PetroBangla officials, but added his name does not appear on the official documents.
Late on Tuesday, the BMCL started a case with police against its 19 former and current officials, including its just-removed managing director Habib Uddin Ahmed, who has been now attached to the PetroBangla.
Immediately after the coal scandal unfolded, PetroBangla opened a probe and filed its findings to the ministry on Wednesday.
The Anti-Corruption Commission has also started an inquiry and after an inspection of the mine on Monday, it five-member team found no trace of 144,000 tonnes of coal at the mine’s yard.
According to the PetroBangla probe report, all of the managing directors since 2005, when the mining started, were involved in the scandal involving coal worth Tk 2.3 billion.
Aminuzzaman had served for the longest time during the years.
A PetroBangla official, familiar with the matter, said the coal was removed from the yard over the years since 2005 and sold in the local market. He added they suspect that it had started from the very beginning.
