Cyclone damages 300,000 hectares of cropland

Ruined paddy field in SatkhiraCyclone Bulbul has destroyed crops across nearly 300,000 hectares of land in 16 districts in Bangladesh, says the government. 

Among the 18 kinds of damaged crops, Aman paddy was ruined severely, according to the Department of Agriculture Extension (DAE).

 “The actual loss can be estimated within four days,” DAE Director (field service wing) Chandi Das Kundu said on Sunday (Nov 10).

Crops like Aman paddy, mustard, pulses and seasonal vegetables have suffered severe losses, he said before adding: "The field-level officers of the DAE are advising farmers according to the condition of their [farmers] crops.”

The government has allotted Tk800 million for the affected farmer, he added.

According to him, the farmers suffered losses mostly in Borguna, Patuakhali, Satkhira, Khulna, Pirojpur, Bagerhat, Feni, Lakshmipur, Noakhali, Bhola and Chattogram.
