Adamjee EPZ road being fixed

A general view of Adamjee-EPZ connection roadThe government has taken the initiative to improve the Adamjee-EPZ connection road which is currently in a dilapidated condition creating problems in the movement of goods from the EPZs.
To improve the connecting road, the government has undertaken a project; the roads and highways department will carry out the work costing Tk 1.14 billion. The 6.20km road will cover the Chashara-Hajiganj-Godnail-Adamjee EPZ area.
The project has been approved by the Executive Committee of the National Economic Council (ECNEC).
Planning ministry said that the project will be implemented by Jun 30, 2021.
The money will be provided by the government.
In implementing the project, 7.284 hectares of land beside Adamjee EPZ will be leased.
The project is part of the government’s 7th five-year plan (2016-2020) under the Transport and Communication Development.
Managing Director of Adamjee EPZ, Ahsan Kabir, said: “Currently, the road is in a rickety state; once the road is improved, the transportation of goods will become easier.”
The Special Export Processing Zone (SEPZ) is also known as Narayanganj EPZ and is situated in Siddhirganj.
Established in 2006 over 245.12 acres of land this is the sixth biggest EPZ.
Adamjee EPZ is 40km from Hazrat Shahjalal Airport in Dhaka and 255km from Chattogram airport.
This is a tax-free area where people can export and import goods without tax.
Titas Gas supplies gas here and there are three kinds of investmentS: 1. One hundred percent local investment, 2. The joint investment of local and foreign capital and 3. One hundred percent local investment. There are 229 industrial plots here, manufacturing, ready-made garments, sweaters and jackets.
