PHOTO/Magnum PhotosA letter sent by the ministry of liberation war affairs, asking for a list of Razakars, who were paid during the war of independence is not getting much of a response. The letter was sent by the ministry four months ago, but replies came from only a few districts.
A decision was taken at the parliamentary standing committee about getting list of paid Razakars on Apr 28 and based on that, letters were sent to all district administrators on May 21. A second letter was sent on Aug 28.
The first letter asked for the preservation of the list while the second asked for a copy of the list to be sent.
Reportedly, responses came from Chadpur, Khagrachari, Sherpur and Magura.
Bagerhat Deputy Commissioner (DC) Md Mamunur Rashid said that he had sent the list while Tangail DC Md Shahidul Islam said: “We are collecting the list from upazila levels and will send the list once done.”
Secretary of the liberation war ministry, SM Arifur Rahman, said: “The response is slow and time will be needed.”
Minister for liberation war affairs, AKM Mozammel Huq, talked about publishing a list of Razakars, Al Badar, Al Shams during a question answer session of the 10th parliament session.
