Home minister warns of stern actions against corruption

Home Minster Asaduzzaman Khan speaks to media in Dhaka on Saturday (Sept 21).Amid the ongoing crackdown on illegal casino operation across Bangladesh, Home Minister Asaduzzaman Khan has said the government will not spare anyone involved in corruption.
“Neither a corrupt people’s representative nor a civil servant will be spared in line with the prime minister’s instruction,” he said on Saturday (Sept 21).
On Sept 19, Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina ordered the law enforcement agencies to take stern action against gambling, narcotics and terrorism a day before she left for New York on Sept 20 to attend the 74th session of the United Nations General Assembly.
Kamal said, “If an allegation of wrongdoings, crimes and corruption is found against anyone s/he will be face trial.
“The government is taking action against those who face the charges of illicit activities,” he added.
Speaking of GK Shamim, who was arrested in possession with arms and a huge amount of money in Dhaka on Friday, Kamal said he [Shamim] would face trial and the government would probe into more allegations against him.
The law enforcement agencies are now keeping corrupt people and who abuses power under its watch, the minister warned.
“Prime Minister [Sheikh Hasina] considers corruption a challenge to establishing good governance,” Kamal quoted her as saying.
The home minister said the PM is committed [to her ends] and sustainable development requires fulfilling her commitment.
“Sustainable peace and stability, as well as security, are the prerequisites a sustainable development and the government are working on it,” he added.
