A delegation of BCL led by its acting president Al-Nahean Khan Joy and acting general secretary Lekhak Bhattacharjee, met Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina at her official residence Ganabhaban in Dhaka on Thursday (Sept 19). PIDPrime Minister Sheikh Hasina has said she is now taking care of her party's youth front Juba League after watching over its student body, Bangladesh Chhatra League (BCL).
"I will eradicate all the inconsistencies of the society. Whatever necessary will be done to prevent crime and lawlessness. Those who need to be held will be detained," she said when a delegation of BCL led by its acting president Al-Nahean Khan Joy and acting general secretary Lekhak Bhattacharjee, met her at Ganabhaban in Dhaka on Thursday (Sept 19).
The remarks of Hasina, who is the president of ruling Awami League (AL), came a day after a Dhaka city unit Juba League leader, Khaled Mahmud Bhuiyan, was arrested on allegation of illegally running a casino.
A four-time prime minister, Hasina said, "It's a difficult task [to bring discipline to the front bodies] and challenges will appear but the government will continue to do so to bring back people's confidence and trust."
Instructing the BCL top leaders to follow the party ideology and maintain honesty and restraint, Hasina said "[I] don't want to hear any complaint.
"Increase the image of the BCL and earn people's trust," she ordered.
This was the first meeting of the top BCL leaders after the student body's parent organization AL removed Rejwanul Haque Choudhury Shovon and Golam Rabbani from the post of BCL's president and general secretary on Sept 14 amid widespread allegation of extortion.
As many as 23 leaders from its BCL's Dhaka University, and Dhaka city units were among the delegation. Four AL leaders, who are assigned by the party president to look after the BCL affairs, were also present.
