Non-MPO teachers postpone demonstration

National Professor Anisuzzaman arrived at the site of demonstration and ended the hunger-strike by offering them water on Wednesday, July 11, 2018.Teachers and staff of non-MPO educational institutions have postponed their demonstration following assurance from the government.
They have been observing a hunger-strike for almost a month now in front on the National Press Club in Dhaka.
On Wednesday, representatives meet Education Minister Nurul Islam Nahid, who assured them that the process to include more institutions in the government’s MPO scheme.
Soon after, National Professor Anisuzzaman and educationist Rasheda K Chowdhury arrived at the site of demonstration and ended the hunger-strike by offering them water.
“Teachers and staff of non-MPO educational institutions have been in a hunger strike for a rational demand. Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina had assured that she will take quick steps to implement the scheme as per the guidelines. We are hoping for an immediate solution of it,” Professor Anisuzzaman said.
“You have to think for the students and need to go to the classes,” he added.
Educationist Rasheda K Chowdhury arrived at the site of demonstration and ended the hunger-strike by offering them water on Wednesday, July 11, 2018.A former caretaker government adviser Rasheda K Chowdhury said, “You are demands are reasonable and the government is working on the process.”
General Secretary of Non-MPO Educational Institutions Teachers' and Employees' Federation, Binoy Bhusan Roy to Bangla Tribune, “Professor Anisuzzaman and Rasheda K Chowdhury came to meet us on behalf of the government and they assured us to solve the crisis. They said that at least one or two months more will be needed for the process as the teachers and employees of non-MPO educational institutions will get the MPO benefits from July. So, we stopped the demonstration”.
