People pay last respects to NAP chief Muzaffar Ahmed

People from all walks of life have thronged the capital’s Central Shaheed Minar to pay their last respects to one of the political luminaries of the country and Bangladesh National Awami Party-NAP (Muzaffar) President Professor Muzaffar Ahmed.
The coffin of Prof Muzaffar was taken to Shaheed Minar on Saturday noon.
Jatiya Samajtantrik Dal (JSD) President ASM Abdur Rab, Ekattorer Ghatok-Dalal Nirmul Committee vice-president Muntasir Mamun, educationist Mamtaz Rashid, freedom fighter Shafiqur Rahman, Bangladesh Mahila Parishad President Ayesha Khanam, Jatiya Samajantrik Dal (JSD) President Hasanul Haq Inu, JSD General Secretary Shirin Akhtar, Samyabadi Dal general secretary Dilip Barua, leaders for different political parties including Awami League and BNP, and eminent cultural personalities paid their last respects to Prof Muzaffar.
Prof Muzaffar, the last member of the advisory council of the government in exile during Liberation War in 1971, breathed his last at a Dhaka hospital on Friday night. He was the NAP president for over five decades.
Earlier in the day, his namaz-e-janaza was held at South Plaza of the parliament around 11am.
President M Abdul Hamid, Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina and Speaker Dr Shirin Sharmin Chaudhury paid homage to the veteran politician at the South Plaza and observed a moment of silence to honour the professor's memory.
Prof Muzaffar will be buried at his village in Cumilla's Debidar Upazila on Sunday (Aug 25).
