Project to ensure climate change adaptability, fresh water in southern districts

The government has ensured salt-free, freshwater for 245,000 people. This facility will aid 245,516 persons of 50,000 families in Dakope, Khulna.
At the same time, 43 thousand women will be given support for livelihood development, marketing and adaptability training, said the ministry of women and children affairs.
The government has taken a project in this regard called ‘increasing adaptability in women to counter salinity due to climate change.’
The project cost will be over Tk 2.78 million and will be jointly implemented by women’s affairs ministry and public health department.
Women volunteers will also be trained on women sensitive early disaster warning systems.
There will also be water management and preservation for 13,308 families and 41 water based purifiers will be constructed. Institutional skills for safe water usage will be developed.
Women and children affairs secretary Kamrun Nahar, said: “The main aim is to increase the adaptability of women, ensure fresh water which is aligned to the 7th five year plan of Bangladesh government.”
Six districts have been identified for the project and they are: Satkhira, Khulna, Jessore, Bagerhat, Patuakhali and Borguna.
Speaking on the project, planning minister, M A Mannan, says: “The project will increase adaptability of women and help in raising the standard of living.”
The project has already been approved by ECNEC and if everything moves as per plan, then it will be implemented totally by 2024.
