Dengue outbreak: Two die, nearly 1600 hospitalised

The Health Emergency Operation Center and Control Room, DGHS statistics for dengue patients admitted between Aug 16 to Aug 22.Two more people have died due to mosquito-borne virus dengue in Dhaka and Barishal.
Gias Uddin, 40, died at Dhaka Medical College Hospital (DMCH) after 6 am on Thursday (Aug 22), said DMCH police outpost Inspector Md Bacchu Mia.
The deceased’s older brother said that he was admitted to the Intensive Care Unit (ICU) of the hospital on Wednesday (Aug 21) and died the next morning.
Meanwhile, 38-year-old Monir Hossain died at Sher-e-Bangla Medical College Hospital after he was admitted there on Sunday (Aug 18), reports Bangla Tribune’s Barishal correspondent quoting hospital Director Dr Bakir Hossain.
NEARLY 1,600 HOSPITALISED IN 24 HOURS
Statistics show that more people are now being affected outside of Dhaka.
According to the Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS), as many as 1,597 new dengue patients have been hospitalized in the last 24 hours.
Amongst them, 761 people are from Dhaka city while the rest of the 836 are from the other divisions.
The DGHS said that that so far 59,592 have been diagnosed with dengue from the beginning of this year.
As many as 41,131 people have been diagnosed with the virus till in the month of August till Aug 22 alone.
