Over 1,450 dengue patients hospitalised in 24hrs

REUTERSAs many as 1,460 people have been hospitalised with dengue-related fever across Bangladesh in the last 24 hours, according to Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS).
Among them, 621 patients were admitted to different hospitals in Dhaka and another 839 outside the capital, says a DGHS statement on Saturday (Aug 17).
The number of admitted patients currently receiving treatment at government and private hospitals combined is 7,856.
At present, 4,043 patients are currently undergoing treatment at different hospitals in Dhaka while 3,813 people are elsewhere, the statement adds.
As of Aug 17, as many as 51,476 people have been infected with dengue since Jan 1 while 43, 589 have been discharged by respective hospitals and clinics after treatment.
According to DGHS, 40 people have died of dengue so far across Bangladesh while the unofficial death toll falls two short of 100.
