Parliament Session (File Photo)Road Transport and Bridges Minister Obaidul Quader said the development work to upgrade the Dhaka-Sylhet highway into four-lane will begin soon on Wednesday (Jun 26) during a parliament session, reports BSS.

The secretary general of the ruling party came up with the declaration while responding to a starred question placed by ruling party lawmaker Md Shahiduzzaman Sarker (Naogaon-2) in the Jatiya Sangsad.

The upgrading, which includes service lanes in both sites, of Dhaka-Tangail highways into four-lane is now at the concluding stage, Quader said, adding that at present, works continue to update the Dhaka-Mawa-Bhanga and Elenga-Hatikumrul-Rangpur highways into four-lane.

He said the feasibility study and detailed design on the upgrading of the country’s 1,752-kilometre highways have already completed under a project titled, ‘Sub-Regional Road Transport Project Preparatory Facilities’.

The road transport and bridges minister informed the House that there are around 21,595 kilometres of highways across the country under the Road and Highway Department.
